Digipak Analysis- The Black Keys

Digipaks are a type of packaging for CDs or DVDs, typically made from cardboard with an internal plastic holder for one or more discs, they are also usually made from recycled materials such as milk bottles and egg cartons etc.

CDs are usually just enclosed within a plastic casing which may contain a booklet giving you information about the CD or artist. Whereas digipaks often enclose CDs in cardboard casing and contains photos and posters of the band.                                                                         

                                                        

 This is a digipak from The black keys 2011 album titled- El camino. The digipak is made from a thin cardboard material which contains the CD. The front cover shows the Black keys first 'tour bus' to symbolise that they didn't start off as a big rock band with lots of money, showing the audience that they are just ordinary people. The digipak is also thinner and more compact than a normal plastic CD case.

The digipak then opens out into four sections each of which shows a picture of a vehicle all within the same town. One of the sections contains a booklet which shows photos of the tour for that album to give the audience some inside knowledge into how the album was made. Another section contains the CD which slides out of the side.

 However if you didn't want to unfold the digipak the CD is still accessible and is able to be taken from the side of the digipak when folded. The back of the digipak also contains a list of the songs that are featured on the album so that the audience know whether or not they'll like or have heard of any of the songs.
